作家コメント
岩手県遠野市にある「乳神様」と呼ばれる遺産と、それを抱く大きなウッコ（イチイ）の木をモチーフに制作した作品です。昔、東北地方は飢饉も多く、貧しい地でした。この地に住む女性達はその栄養状態の悪さから、子に恵まれなかったり、母乳が出ないことに思い悩み、乳神様に祈願したと言われています。ウッコの木には、乳房に見立てた紅白の布の玉がいくつも吊るされており、初めてこの場所に訪れた時、巨大なウッコの木と紅白の色が醸し出す不思議な空間に目を奪われました。 この作品は、そんな乳神様に訪れた女性の祈りの声にそっと耳を傾ける、ウッコの精霊或いはその土地に住まう妖（あやかし）の姿をイメージして制作しました。乳神様の遺産は市内から少し離れた山道に近い所にある為、せめて訪れた女性達が道に迷わないよう、柔らかな光で照らし、見守っている。そんな存在です。

ディレクターコメント
岩手県は「民話の里」とも呼ばれるほど多くの民間信仰・伝承等の古い言い伝えを残す土地だ。幼少期を岩手県で過ごした古原も、一緒に暮らしていた祖父母から多くの物語を伝え聞いていたという。
古原の作品には、地域の伝承・信仰に加え、自身が体験した出来事の記憶が入り混じっている。何かを見た、という曖昧な記憶を元に紡がれる、もしかしたらあれは、という願いの糸のようなもの。大切な人を亡くした経験から、古原はこの世とあの世の間で、どこかあたたかなそれを捜しているのかもしれない。

Artist Comment
This work is based on a ruin in Tono, Iwate Prefecture, known as the 'Chichigami-sama," a Milk God, and the giant yew tree that embraces it. Historically, the Tohoku region was a poor place with frequent famines. Women in the region prayed to the Milk God because they worried they were not blessed with children or could not produce enough breast milk due to poor nutrition. Many red and white cloth balls resembling breasts are hung from the yew trees at the site. When I first visited this place, I was fascinated by the mysterious space created by the huge yew tree and the red and white colors.I created this work in the image of the spirit of the yew tree that lives in the area, gently guarding prayers who visited there. The ruin of the Milk God is located far from the city and close to a mountain road. So it leads the women who visit the place with the soft light, so they do not lose their way.

Gallery Commentary
Iwate Prefecture, also known as the "Home of Folktales," is a land that retains many folk beliefs and legends. Kohara, who spent the childhood there, also heard many stories passed down from her grandparents.
Kohara’s artworks are a mixture of local folklore and beliefs, as well as memories of events she experienced. The artworks created from vague memories of what she saw, and they are like a thread of wishes for what might have been.
Having experienced the loss of a loved one, Kohara is searching for something warm between this world and the next.
